Our Children’s Biggest Christmas Gift Ever

January 2nd, 2014

Mattresses

This year the children at Master’s Home received the biggest Christmas gift yet!
At least in size.

Thanks to a generous donation from one of our long time supporters, we were able to gift a new mattresses and bed sheet to each child in our Children’s Home! A new mattress may not seem very exciting to an American child, but I can assure you there was great anticipation and excitement in Master’s Home on Christmas Eve.

Bedsheets

In India, mattresses are cotton and are built to last about 9 or 10 years. All our children have been sleeping on the original mattresses that were bought when our current dormitory was built and we moved all the kids from the temporary sheds into the new building. That was in 2003!

What a blessing for them to go to bed on cozy new mattresses and wake up refreshed on Christmas Day!

Vision Nationals cares for 140 children from the time they arrive until they receive a college degree, secure a good job, and can care for themselves. It is through your support and prayers that God has allowed us to break the cycle of poverty in the lives of these children. If you would like to support a child for $60 a month for a full sponsorship or $30 a month for a half-sponsorship, please email Karla.

Three Vision Nationals’ Christmas Parties

December 26th, 2013

Christmas in Odisha

This year we had many celebrations in honor of Christmas and Christ’s birth. Enjoy these photos from our celebrations:

The first was in Odisha State with some of the church planters that are joining our network. It was a blessed time of fellowship with these men and their congregations. We are currently working in one area of the state and looking to expand into a second area in the near future. Odisha has only 2.4% of Christians and 94.35% are Hindus. Christianity has never had strong roots in the state, and as a result Christians continuously face severe hardship. Pray that God would give us good fruit in this new effort.

Blessing our widows.

We also celebrated Christmas with all the widows in our care. It was a sweet time of blessing these women with a beautiful meal and a gift for each one.

College students sing.

Later, we had a Christmas celebration with all the children and Master’s College students on campus. What a lovely program we had with singing, dancing, and praising God for the gift of his son!

We pray that each of you found joy in this season as we celebrated the greatest gift of God’s son! Blessings to each of you in this new year!

As we meditate on the birth and life of our Savior, we are humbled and blessed to have shared his story with the most people ever this year! The numbers below are not just numbers, they represent real people who have heard the Gospel message this year – many for the first time!

700 people baptized in 2013!

80,000 – people who heard the Gospel through the individual evangelism, small group meetings, and large Gospel conventions.

4,000 – souls added to our churches.

800 – Pastors and Church Planters trained and encouraged, including church planters who will join our network next year.

700 – people baptized!

40 – new churches planted.

7 – church buildings built.

2 – Pastors miraculously saved from death this year.

1 – New district where we are now planting churches.

More people have joined churches and received baptism in 2013 than ever before in the history of Vision Nationals. Thank you to all of our supporters who give generously to allow us to reach our people with the Good News of Jesus Christ!

Q&A: What Do Hindus Do About Christmas?

December 20th, 2013

With Christmas right around the corner, we thought it pertinent to answer the question: What do Hindus do about Christmas? While we realize there is a large range of beliefs and practices among Hindus, here are five things Hindus do about Christmas:

Number One:
Hindus DO believe Jesus was a historical figure. They believe he was born 2000 years ago as the Bible teaches and Christians proclaim.

Number Two:
Hindus (the majority of them) DO believe Jesus is god incarnate in the world. They do not, however, believe Jesus is the only God but one of many.

Number Three:
Hindus (some of them) DO pray to Jesus because they believe he is a personal god.

Number Four:
Hindus DO give gifts and cards to their Christian friends and wish them Happy Christmas.

Number Five:
Hindu businesses DO decorate with lights and Christmas trees. You may even find a Santa around town!

Our Q&A series answers questions our readers have about Indian culture in general and our ministries in particular. If you have a question you would like answered, please email Lauren.

Caring for Thousands More Children

December 16th, 2013

Our goal: End poverty.

Many of you know Vision Nationals’ has cared for children for many years. At Master’s Home for Children we care for our kids from the time the arrive until they finish college, secure a good job, and can provide for themselves. We have over 140 children living on campus at any one time, but we have our sights set on more. Much more.

This year, our Director Arjuna was given a new vision to care for thousands of kids. To do this, we will have to look beyond what our campus can hold. This new vision is in large part due to the work Pastor Kishore is doing through a partnership with the local school in his village.

Most of the children Pastor Kishore is working with are from poor families. The majority of these children will not finish high school, and those who do would never be able to afford a college education. Because of this, these children will find menial jobs after they quit school and live in poverty for the rest of their lives.

Our desire is to break this cycle of poverty for thousands of children!

In the coming year, many of our church planters will build partnerships with their local schools and provide children the tutoring and encouragement they need to graduate from High School. We will help parents provide uniforms and books for the children. For some, we will provide meals to offset the loss of income a family experiences when a child is in school instead of the workforce.

It is our hope and prayer that we would see many of these children attend college, earn a degree, a secure a job that would ensure they and their families never see poverty again!

As we look towards 2014 we are excited for this massive expansion of our ministry to children, and it is our hope that many of you would sponsor these children and the pastors who will oversee their care.

As the year draws to an end, we invite you give towards the work Vision Nationals is doing in India. Whether church planting, training nationals, or caring for orphans and widows, we do what we do with the hope that many of our people would meet Jesus Christ. If you would like to give a year-end tax-deductible gift you can give online. For questions for more information please email Lauren.
