Despite The Shame, Pim Kept Her Daughter

Vision Nationals partners with The Family Connection Foundation in Thailand to pursue our goals of planting churches, training nationals and caring for orphans and widows throughout Asia. In addition to orphanages, The Family Connection Foundations runs a home for disadvantaged single mothers.

The director of the Family Connection Foundation, Tim, shared a story with us recently that helps us understand why there are so many orphans in Thailand. He says, “It’s not because the parents die, but because of dysfunction, abuse, and the fear of bringing shame to the family. If we do not intervene and help, the children end up as orphans and while we do have homes for these kids, it is so much better if we can prevent them from being abandoned in the first place!

Pim* was just 16 years old when she became pregnant with her daughter Orapin*. Pim had many boyfriends and became pregnant whilst she was studying at College. Pim’s mother could not accept her pregnancy and her relatives told her to have an abortion or give the child up for adoption so that the family would not be shamed.

Pim’s mother has a high rank in the Thailand prison system and if people knew her daughter had a child out of wedlock than it would cause a lot of shame and bad luck for the family. However Pim had a heart to care for her daughter and made a decision to take care of Orapin herself, even if it meant rejection from her family.

Pim moved from her hometown in Northeast Thailand to Chiang Mai, to live at a government refuge and then came to live with us at Home of the Swallow. Since then Pim has grown into a very loving mother and is studying at the moment so that she can get a good job to continue taking care of Orapin.

Pim came to know Jesus and after experiencing the love of God in her life and has committed to be the best mother she can be. Pim has not seen her own mom since giving birth to Orapin but prays that their family relationship can be restored one day by the grace of God.

Pim has a dream to complete Beauty College and to open her own Beauty Salon. Pim will continue studying and working to gain experience and save money until she has enough to open her own business. Pim loves to cut hair, do nails, make up and more. Please pray for Pim and her relationship with her mom.

Pray that her mom’s heart would be softened and willing to accept Pim and Orapin back into the family. Pray for Pim as she is studying each week that she would be diligent in her studies and have great career opportunities in the future.
