Kalyan was expected to follow his father and grandfather before him into the Hindu priesthood with its rituals and animal sacrifices. He stuttered through his childhood, mocked relentlessly by other children for his difficulty speaking. He prayed to several Hindu gods to be freed from his stutter but they did not answer.
As a young man, he was involved in a quarrel that led to a fight that resulted in the death of one person. Kalyan fled his small village, joined a gang of rebels, and turned his back on all gods. He knew he was doing wrong, but he was restless and did not care.
Kalyan returned to his village some years later, and began associating with Christian missionary friends he once knew. They preached the gospel to him again, and he began attending church now and then.
One evening in church, Christ spoke to him through Isaiah 49:15 and Joshua 1:6. Kalyan believed Christ and his stutter left! He found a job in the police department and worked there for nearly ten years. He began to sense a call to plant churches, and in 2007 took ten days to fast and seek God’s will about the issue. The answer: Yes.
He resigned from the police department later that year in obedience to his calling and asks each of you: “I request your prayers for me as I plant churches and also receive teaching and training through Vision Nationals Church Planting Ministry – Vision 2030″.
Kalyan is part of Vision 2030 – Vision National’s church planting initiative to plant 10,000 churches by the year 2030. We have 500 more men like Kalyan waiting to join Vision 2030. For $50 a month you can support a church planter like Kalyan. GIVE.
