Who Feeds All These Kids?

The Faces of Vision Nationals series highlights some of the more behind-the-scenes people in our organization that keep things running smoothly. Today’s face: Paul the Cook.

Paul and his help. The ginger in that bowl is for one curry...

In 2000, Paul moved his wife and two children from a small village to the big city to work as the cook for Vision Nationals. With two small kids at home, he knew there was no future for them in the village. This job was not only an opportunity for him, it was also his chance to open up a future for his children that he could never have dreamed of for himself.

When Paul started, Vision Nationals had about 60 children in Master’s Home and only a handful of students at Master’s College. As the ministry has grown, so has Paul’s work load. He now prepares three meals a day for 140 children and 75 college students.

That an average of 600 meals a day!

Older girls prep green beans.

He doesn’t do it alone…Oh no! He has a few assistant cooks that work under him and help washing dishes. In addition to that, the older girls in Master’s Home help chop veggies and onions for the curries.

Paul and his wife Esther have two children, Issac and Hyne. Both were small when the family moved to campus in 2002, and they both started attending Master’s School. After high school we continued supporting them through college. Issac finished his Bachelors in Bio-Chemistry in 2008 and immediately secured a good job. Hyne finished her Bachelors in Computer Science in 2009 and is now married.

Their lives are changed, not only for this world, but also in the next as Paul and his family have come to know and love Jesus!

Those who have been to our campus in Vizag know what a wonderful job Paul does! But to enjoy a delicious masterpiece by Paul the Cook, you have to be able to handle the spice…even the “no-spice” dishes he makes for the Westerners can bring a grown man to tears.

Anyone who has tasted a meal by Paul will agree. It’s worth it.
